How to Create a False Bottom

for Your Portable Garden

Creating a false bottom in the tank will cut down on the amount of potting soil you’ll need for the project.

See instructions above to reference the amount

of soil different plants need.

Bring the measurements of your tanks to your local hardware store

and purchase pressure treated lumber to make the false bottoms.

This kind of wood won’t rot. Ask them to cut a piece of

3/4” pressure treated plywood to fit the bottom ofthe tanks.

Small gaps around the edges will allow for necessary drainage.

Also ask the store cut a 4 x 4” pressure treated post into six

pieces to make the legs. The height of the legs will be determined

by how much soil you’ll need in each tank (specified above).

Use long nails or screws to attach the legs to the cut

sheet of plywood, spaced evenly for best support.
